UN agensies called for urgent action to combat ageism as negative stereotypes, prejudice and perceptions towards people based on their age, not only leads to poorer health and social isolation but also costing economies billions of dollars.

A new report,  "Global report on Ageism", published by WHO, UNFPA, UNDESA, OHCHR, warns that key institutions - helath, social and legal systems - are impacted by ageism.

The report also addresses the nature and the determinants of ageism as well as the scale and the impac of it, and highlights strategies to reduce ageism.
